BEUTLER Johannes

Judaism and the Jews in the Gospel of John

2006, pp. 176

The gospel of John has been described as at once the most Jewish and the most anti-Jewish of all the gospels. This dual aspect is reflected in the present book. The work takes its point of departure from the observation that the Jewish liturgical year has a determinatives role for the structure of the fourth gospel. The present study seeks to suggest the causes of this conflict and to propose ways of overcoming any anti -semitism that copuld be based on the fourth gospel.

Johannes Beutler SJ, born in Hamburg, is a professor at the Pontifical Biblical Institute (Rome).
